3 Day Botanical impact printing + hand bound journal making

Debra WillsDiscover the magic of Cradle Mountain through this unique three-day art experience.  Participants will be taught by local textile artist and designer, Debra Wills. Learn the art of plant dyeing, experimentation and basic bookbinding; using textiles and paper to make your own personalised journal.

The workshop will be held in the Mountain Rocket Room with access to the outdoor area and use of the nearby kitchenette. Each day will run until approximately 4:00pm.

This immersive experience will leave participants, both experienced and beginners, relaxed and inspired.


Dates:              Friday 27, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 April 2018

Cost:                $1,000 per person

This three-day experience includes:

  • Welcome drink on arrival
  • Two nights accommodation with complimentary upgrade to split level king room
  • Full buffet breakfast on mornings of the 28th and 29th April

Day 1:

  • 11am – Check-in at the Cradle Mountain Hotel.
  • Welcome drink with the tutor in the Hotel Bar.
  • A walk in the wilderness, gathering eucalyptus leaves and other botanical matter.
  • Using wool and silk fabrics + assorted papers, we will assemble our bundles for dyeing, with gathered bush leaves.
  • Begin work on journals.


Day 2:

  • 10am – Meet the tutor in the Wilderness Gallery foyer.
  • More dyeing and experimentation.
  • Assemble signatures for journal; including paper and fabrics you have dyed, bind with French link stich.
  • Begin work on journal cover.


Day 3:

  • 10am – Meet the tutor in the Wilderness Gallery foyer.
  • Complete journal by attaching cover.
  • Add embellishments to your journal; buttons, stitched fabric or found items.
  • Make a variety of treasures to personalise your journal, small drawings or mark making on fine paper, plus simple stitching on dyed fabrics, found items or written words.
